5 Days – Exploring the Southern Morocco (Merzouga)

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Departure early in the morning from Marrakech. We start our way through the Tichka Col (mountain road) where we will stop to appreciate the idealic panorama. Leave the main road to travel on the smaller passages to Telouet. Here you will see the last remains of the Pacha Glaoui. Continuing along the small passages we will arrive at Ait Benhaddou to take a break for lunch. After lunch we will explore the ancient Ksar Kasbah, home to a magnificent UNESCO heritage sightl. Arrival at Ouarzazate in the afternoon where we can visit the Atlas film studio (optional, entry at your own expense), visit the Kasbah Taourit in the town and that night will be spent in a guesthouse.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Dades Gorge – Todra Gorge
Departure from your hotel in Ouarzazate after breakfast, onwards to the Dades Gorges passing Skoura, to El Kelaa M’gouna (the city of roses). Crossing the Berber villages where the track will lead us to the Dades Gorges Boulemane. We will cross the palm grove and the kasbah of Ouarzazate, continuing on the track towards the west to reach the village of Bou-Tharar and stopping at Ait-Youl kasbah for lunch. After lunch, we continue along the road that winds around the hills of the High Atlas to the exit of the Todra Gorge by foot. Here we will spend the night in guesthouse.
Day 3: Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Rissani – (Sahara) Merzouga
Departure to Merzouga via the Erfoudfamous. We travel through Rissani former capital of Tafilalet and we head for the track to the desert of Merzouga. Arriving at the foot of the dunes, we travel by camel back (1 hour) to the camp in the middle of the Erg Chebbi.
Sunset, mint tea, dinner, entertainment and overnight in Nomads tents.
Day 4: (Sahara) Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Merzouga
After breakfast, you will have the grand tour of the dunes through the two oasis’ of Merzouga and the village of KHAMLIA ( black village) the mines of MIFISS and the desert plateau (where we meet the nomadic Berbers oasis TISSARDMINE). Returning to the hostel in the afternoon to begin the camel caravan toget the opportunity to experience the sunset from the dunes. Spending the night in a wild oasis located 2 hours on foot away from the desert. Dinner and overnight camping in Nomad tents.
Day 5: (Sahara) Merzouga Erfoud – Ziz Valley – Errachidia – Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fez.
After breakfast, departing towards Erfoud Errachidia and the Ziz valley which is dotted with palm trees. Arriving at Midelt for lunch through the mountains and cedar forests of the Middle Atlas. After passing Zad (2178m / 7146 ft) we will arrive at Azrou. This is an important handicraft center specializing in the work of cedar wood. Passing by Ifrane, a charming ski resort, and continuing the road to Fez, where we arrive late in the afternoon.
