Chez Mbarek Benghanzzi was born in southern Morocco in the small village of M’hamid (edge of Sahara Desert) born into nomad family. Mbarek’s father was one of the first men to attempt working with tourism in this area. After many years watching his father and meeting tourists from near and far Mbarek built his own guesthouse in M’hamid. Although the guesthouse was just a small, singular room without garden but it was the only guesthouse you could find that had the Sahara as it’s front yard.

Today, 9 years later, the humble guesthouse has grown to be a great guesthouse with four rooms, a small campsite if you wish to sleep beneath the stars and a large garden on the doorstep of the desert. Mbarek’s passionately shares his wisdom about Saharan life with anyone lucky enough to get the opportunity to meet him.

Asked about Sahara Desert, Mbarek said:

“I really like it, here I am at home, I come from nomad family and it has always been our way of life. Sahara is big, very big, and most fascinating to explore. There are many places where we go, we explore the south of Morocco, where you can really experience the nature. One of these places is the larger range of dunes in Sahara, Erg Chegaga, this place is special for me, it is just incredible and beautiful. It is perfect to enjoy the sunset, good music, food, etc. We have camps located in the heart of Erg Chegaga which we visit or stay overnight (depending on the tour) during our excursions into the desert. I welcome anyone interested in exploring our beautiful desert to come join us. We will be happy to welcome you to our nomad family.”
